Public Switched Telephony Network (PSTN) is the analogue network for business customers in the UK. Analogue lines are single lines that are primarily used for making voice calls, connecting to fax machines and connecting to a modem for dial-up internet.
Analogue lines can only make and receive one call at a time, with a single telephone number allocated to each line. So if you require more capacity, you’ll need multiple (multi) analogue lines. This makes PSTN great for small businesses, as it’s quick and easy to add more lines as your business grows.
If your business makes and receives a lot of phone calls, it’s worth investing in multiple analogue lines to help you deal with them efficiently. Multi lines enable more of your staff to be on the phone at the same time, reducing customer waiting times and increasing satisfaction. Your staff will also be better able to manage and direct calls, as they’ll be able to put customers on hold and transfer calls internally.
ISDN lines are used for voice and data communications and channels range from 2 – 8 with the ISDN2 and from 8 onwards with the ISDN30.
The number of channels represents the number of possible simultaneous connections, giving you the ability to make calls, receive calls, receive faxes and access the internet at the same time. The call quality delivered over ISDN lines will nearly always be clearer and sharper than with a standard analogue phone line.
ISDN30 and ISDN30e are high-performance voice and data services for modern businesses with eight or more employees. Each ISDN30/30e connection provides 8-30 independent 64k channels. You can combine these for bandwidth-hungry applications such as high-quality video conferencing or transferring large data files. ISDN30/30e is ideal for wide-area networks linking two or more offices.
ISDN30/30e means you can have an unlimited number of DDI numbers, allowing customers and business contacts to dial directly through to staff members, without passing through a switchboard.
If you have invested, or are thinking of investing, in fast internet access installing SIP Trunks means you can get more value for money out of your investment through your telephone system.
SIP Trunks enable your telephone system to be operated over the internet, providing multiple benefits and advantages, including:
Traditional broadband technology enables you and your business to connect to the internet. Using existing copper lines, ADSL broadband can provide high-quality internet connectivity to both home workers and small to large business premises.
ADSL broadband is available at almost all premises across the UK and speeds vary depending on the location of the premises. Activ can provide you with a business broadband service at a competitive rate with our dedicated support team just a phone call away.
Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) uses fibre optic cables to dramatically increase the speed of your broadband connection. The fibre cables run from the local exchange to the cabinet, and then use copper to distribute from the cabinet to your premises. Depending on your business’ location in relation to the cabinet, the speed of your connection can reach up to 100MB/per second.
Fibre to the Premise (FTTP) provides super-fast broadband using fibre optic cables from the local exchange right up to the door of your premises, giving you a stronger and more reliable connection. Activ is one of very few providers to supply this form of internet connectivity to UK businesses.
Our super-fast fibre broadband packages are location dependent, as not all of the UK is covered yet but new locations are continually being added to the network.
Leased lines provide your business with a dedicated connection to the internet, which can set your business above the rest. A leased line provides internet connectivity directly and exclusively to your business premises from the cabinet – establishing security and guaranteeing your constant and consistent access to the internet.
A leased line can enhance your business by increasing its efficiency through super-fast speed and opening up your options for cloud-based solutions with IT and telephone systems. A leased line through Activ has high reliability and is fully managed, if anything goes wrong you can be assured that the problem will be fixed without any of the lengthy waits associated with standard broadband.
