Outside of work, Colin Nonas is kept busy by his three energetic young boys, all of whom are football mad. His eldest son plays for Newcastle Benfield which will soon take part in a tournament in Switzerland against a range of top name European youth academies, including one from the mighty Juventus.
Colin is a big Newcastle United fan, attending all home games. He plays pool once a week for a pub league team with friends he has known since the age of 18.
Having studied English Literature and History at college, I wanted to get onto the career ladder quickly following the loss of my father. I saw it as my responsibility to take care of the family.
This has led to a very varied and interesting career journey.
I started off in telephone banking in a contact centre before I was asked to move to Glasgow with five colleagues to open the first office in Scotland for TSB.
I remained in Glasgow for a while before returning to the North-East handling inbound activity for Convergys UK. I then somehow found myself working for the company in Nebraska!! Timing and luck probably had some part to play in that move! Nebraska is a beautiful state and I loved the upbeat American attitude to life as well as the value they place on customer service.
I returned to the UK with Convergys and worked with US clients for a short period before taking up the role as telesales manager with a different company.
I really enjoyed coaching and motivating the sales team. However, the company was bought out by the massive Daisy Distribution and I felt the urge to work again at a smaller company. Customer service is key for me and I wanted to be able to interact with my customers and provide them with a personal touch.
I worked at BT for a little while before Activ Technology approached me. This was the fit I was looking for. The company values of honesty and integrity and its focus on people mirrored my own outlook on business and life.
As a senior business development manager, I work very closely with senior business development manager, Andrew Marsh, business development managers, Danny Gavin and Carl Dickson and head of sales, Dean Cowens.
We have a great camaraderie and we are all ambitious and motivated in our desire to help the business grow.
At Activ we treat all our customers equally. We value the relationship we have with them and go above and beyond to ensure they have a brilliant service offering.
I work predominately to deliver fixed line and voice over IP solutions along with providing IT support to my clients.
Following a serious illness, I am currently phasing myself back into work. All the team have been so supportive to myself and my family with hospital visits and acts of kindness. They have also ensured that I am able to manage my workloads and have stepped in to support me where necessary. I consider myself very fortunate to work in an environment with such a strong people culture.
