Away from his role as IT administrator for team Activ in Scotland, Hasabe Qamar has an extensive portfolio of properties to manage, as part of a family business venture. To relax, Hasabe enjoys spending time with his family and watching a good film.
IT has always been a great passion of mine. From a young age I gravitated towards a computer. It was therefore a natural move to study for a higher national diploma in IT and Networks, followed by a degree in IT and networking at what was Paisley University.
After one year I left university to join Currie Solutions as a network administrator.
I was part of a very small IT team which provided day-to-day IT support for the European branches, ensuring infrastructure was up-to-date.
I remained for 20 months. I gained valuable experience and I also learned how to think on my feet.
I took eight months off to care for my grandad who was very ill. I then took up a position on the IT help desk at global information and communications technology (ICT) services provider, Getronics.
I was asked to become part of the incident management team, helping to restore a service to normal as quickly as possible after a disruption and with minimum impact on the business.
As well as having to be reactive to major incidents, IT incident management also had a proactive side to it as we needed to ensure that clients were prepared and ready for unexpected hardware, software and security failings. Each day was never the same!
I then joined the IT and digital technical team at Atlas ICT Solutions, working in the South West and Central belt of Scotland. I worked in a field position providing IT support to senior engineers.
This was a dynamic role and I really liked being on-site rather than working from an office. It was also a new environment for me as I managed a host of different IT platforms for a variety of organisations.
After two and a half years I was approached to join Activ Technology. This was an opportunity that I had to take as the role involved a great deal of on-site activity.
Team Scotland, as we call ourselves, consists of myself, senior business development manager, Gregor Cuming, senior engineer/technical consultant, Michael Quinn, technical assistant, Russell Layden and business support advisor, Jade Nichol.
I work alongside a dedicated and enthusiastic bunch of colleagues and every day is different. In terms of future progression, I would like a senior engineer role at Activ Technology.
