It’s a numbers game for Corrynne Pollard

Away from her role as assistant accountant at Activ Technology, Corrynne Pollard, enjoys socialising with friends and relaxing on holiday. Portugal is a particular favourite, purely for the good weather and picturesque setting.

Having left school, I studied for a business management foundation degree at Newcastle College and then joined a company called Thornton Print Ltd as an assistant accountant.

I remained for five years, learning how to prepare financial statements and accounts, budgeting and managing invoices.

I left to join Activ Technology taking on the same role as assistant accountant. I enjoy working within a family business, it is a friendly environment and we work in close-knit teams. I particularly enjoy working alongside commissions analyst, Kevin Raffles and finance director, Michael Hearns.

The role varies from day-to-day and I work with the team in a sales ledger role, where I record sales, help to produce invoices, become involved in banking and reconciliation and ensuring we have been paid by customers.

I also work with the internal account management mobile team helping with the processing of orders.

I have enhanced my skill-set by studying for a foundation certificate in accounting. There are 4 levels and I am now onto Level 4.

What did this include?

A lot of late nights and home studying but it has been worth it. I have enjoyed seeing my own personal progression from the introductory level 1 course through to the more advanced level 4 diploma.

During my journey I have studied everything from a basic introduction to accounting and finance skills through to the final and most advanced stage of the (Association of Accounting Technicians) AAT, where I am now learning budget preparation, monitoring financial performance and drafting financial statements.

The AAT is greatly respected in the industry and will help to further my finance career. I am not sure of my long-term goal yet but I am sure it will involve numbers!
