What the ISDN switch off means for your business

You may or may not be aware that in 2015, BT announced they will making some major changes which may ultimately affect your business. By 2025, BT will be switching off the UK’s Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN).

Whilst you may think that 2025 is a long time away, business will no longer be able to purchase or upgrade to a system that utilises the ISDN Network from 2020 – that’s only 3 years away.

If your business currently uses ISDN, you will need to consider migrating to a VoIP service soon as ISDN is already regarded as a legacy network. This means investment into this network will diminish and eventually become difficult to maintain until its final switch-off.

What is VoIP?

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a premium service which delivers high quality voice calls over a data connection – significantly reducing the cost of calls and reducing overheads of traditional line rentals.

Why switch to VoIP?

  • Reduced cost of calls
  • Simple set-up and configuration
  • Flexibility: cost effective and speedy to add/remove new users as and when required
  • Reduced overheads of traditional line rentals
  • Resilient call management, if connectivity goes down it is possible to temporarily divert all calls to a mobile until the connection is back up and running
