Introducing you to our operations manager, Claire Kennedy

For the love of dogs! When she is not operations manager at Activ Technology, Claire Kennedy enjoys nothing more than spending time with her three dogs – Honey, a Basset Hound, Louie, a Chihuahua and Chumley, a Cocker Spaniel.

Being part of a growing, ambitious team is great fun but also challenging. Having time to relax and switch off is important. My three dogs are a big part of my life. They are not only adorable, but they ensure I get plenty of exercise and they are so demanding that they take my mind away from work.

My journey with the business began 20 years ago at our previous company, Fone Logistics, in a role that could best be described as a jack-of-all trades!

I worked across both sales and repairs and undertook training to become a mobile phone engineer. I developed a great working relationship with managing director, Ian Gillespie and his wife, Lynne, who is now HR director at Activ Technology. Indeed, much of my development can be attributed to Lynne, as she leads by example and has been a fantastic mentor to me.

Lynne put her trust in me and showed me how to manage people. Thanks to the company I gained a business management foundation degree and won a management student award for my dissertation. I also completed an electrical engineering course which enabled me to run phone repair workshops.

At my ten year mark with Fone Logistics, it was sold to Daisy Distribution and I was appointed service delivery manager. Running the processing team was a demanding yet enjoyable role, with my mission being the delivery of exceptional customer service.

I had maintained a relationship with Lynne and Ian over the years and 18 months ago I was delighted to be appointed operations manager at Activ Technology. The pull of being part of a family firm again and to have direct access to key decision makers within the business, was a big pull factor.

I work with a team of three very enthusiastic colleagues who are keen to learn and really support me within my role. They are comms engineer, Ray Elliott, senior comms specialist, Dana Royle and business support advisor, Jade Nicol.

We work closely with the sales and IT teams to sell our products and services to customers and I have daily contact with them, so we are all aware of each other’s activity. Managing compliance and working closely with HR when it comes to health and safety within the workplace, is also part of my role.

There are many challenges within our sector. Third party network suppliers being one of them, but by being agile, proactive and offering a high quality service that is delivered on-time, we remain ahead of the curve.

My ambition is to see the company grow and to support each division to achieve this. We have just opened our first office outside of the North East, in Dumfries, Scotland, with a five-strong team and we are all looking forward to seeing further growth in 2019!
