Case Study: youngsRPS

The Client

An independent firm of chartered surveyors, land and estate agents and planning consultants operating within the North East and Scotland.

The challenge

YoungsRPS already had an established supplier for its IT services but as the needs of the business changed, an alternative provider was sought. The company has seen significant growth, almost doubling staff numbers between 2015 and 2019. A refresh and unification of the IT and communications systems was needed.

Following a competitive tender process, Activ Technology was appointed as the preferred IT partner.

The solution

The existing framework was approaching the end of its useful life. Activ designed, deployed and migrated a new IT infrastructure across the company’s seven offices.

A two-node virtualised cluster centred around Microsoft Hyper-V and centralised storage, was implemented. This provides the ability to allocate system resources in a granular manner as well as ensuring greater redundant features, resulting in better availability and management capability.

Cloud back-up and a new virtualised desktop environment, allows access from remote offices to the main solution located at the company’s headquarters. All employees are now working on one system, information is stored centrally and overall performance and reliability of the environment has increased dramatically.

As well as providing IT support, Activ also implemented a new Mitel telephony platform providing voice services across all sites. This solution takes advantage of SIP trunking technology, reducing call costs to the business. All data and company applications were migrated while ensuring customer disruption was kept to a minimum.
