As a company committed to developing the skill set of young people, we were delighted to attend an inspirational evening, held at Whickham School.
Pupils had the opportunity to visit stands and explore potential pathways into employment, as they spoke to a range of businesses, professionals, and entrepreneurs.
I was joined on the night by our business admin apprentice, Lauren Robison and business development manager, Daniel Gavin.
A former pupil at the school, Lauren, aged 18 was able to highlight her career journey and inspire pupils, as she answered questions and discussed her career choice of a business admin apprenticeship.
As an internal account manager, I enjoyed informing pupils of my role and how the mobile account management team at Activ is supporting Lauren who, upon successful completion of her studies, will be appointed by the company and will work as an internal accounts manager.
Companies showcased their products or service offering and our business development manager, Daniel Gavin, was on hand to discuss the benefits of using Promethean interactive panels. Instead of teachers using projectors, we have installed new front of class displays, in the form of interactive touch screens, into a number of local schools and colleges.
A former education specialist, Daniel, has worked with a range of primary and secondary schools as well as colleges, universities and academies, primarily training customers how to use interactive panels. It was a great opportunity to highlight to the school how this could enhance the classroom experience.
We very much enjoyed the evening and it was a fantastic opportunity to also meet with like-minded companies who are keen to help develop the skill set of young people upon leaving education.
We want to strengthen our relationship with the school by offering an apprenticeship to a student to follow in Lauren’s footsteps and study business admin. And, of course, Lauren would be on hand to provide plenty of first hand advice!
